The 3rd World Health Expo kicked off in Wuhan on April 8. Before that, the city also hosted a series of major exhibitions and forums such as the Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum. Since 2020, many Fortune Global 500 companies, including Honeywell have accelerated their investment in Wuhan. There are new investments and development booms here. The frequent visits from leading entrepreneurs of Chinese and foreign enterprises and heavyweight investment projects settling in the city have drawn up a blueprint to cultivate Wuhan's world-class industrial clusters.

3. Wuhan extends China-Europe freight train service to Milan

中欧班列从汉抵达米兰

In March this year, an all-cargo flight route from Wuhan to Los Angeles resumed normal operations. This air route was the first one to American countries to resume in Hubei after the Spring Festival holiday this year. Currently, Wuhan has resumed all-cargo flight routes to Liège, Belgium and Chicago,U.S. The city also opened an all-cargo flight route to London, England and Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Wuhan extended the China-Europe freight train service to Milan, Italy for the first time. It is the second time that the China-Europe freight train extended its service to more European countries after its extension to London.

4. Building up one-hour transportation nextwork

武汉城市圈1小时交通网加速形成

Wuhan has initiated a transportation development strategy, building up an intercity transportation network that reaches any destination around the city in an hour.

当前，武汉正在实施交通支撑战略，武汉城市圈1小时通勤交通网逐步形成。

As the fifth intercity railway in Hubei province, the Wuhan-Xiantao Intercity Railway began operations in December 2020. The other four intercity railways are those from Wuhan to Xianning, Huangshi, Huanggang, and Xiaogan. With a designed speed of 200 kilometers per hour, a direct route between Wuhan and Xiantao only takes about 41 minutes. On Jan. 2, 2021, the Gedian South Station on the Gedian Section of Wuhan Metro Line 11 began operation, which connects the East Lake High-tech Development Zone and the Gedian Economic & Technological Development Zone, making Ezhou the second city in Hubei to have a metro.

2020年12月26日，武仙城际铁路正式开通，成为继武汉至咸宁、武汉至黄石、武汉至黄冈、武汉至孝感等四条城际铁路开通运营后的第五条城际铁路。设计时速200公里，从仙桃乘城铁到武汉，最快只需41分钟。今年1月2日，地铁11号线葛店段开通，连接东湖高新区与葛店开发区，也使得鄂州成为湖北省第二个拥有地铁站的城市。

The intelligent transformation of the Wuhan manufacturing industry has entered a golden period, and a number of Wuhan local intelligent manufacturing suppliers are rising rapidly. In July 2020, Lantu (English name: VOYAH), the high-end electric vehicle brand of Dongfeng Motor Corporation premiered its first concept car to the world. In September 2020, the world's first 5G foldable mobile phone, Motorola Razr 5G, officially rolled off the production line at Lenovo's Wuhan industrial base. This type of phone was shipped to about 160 countries and regions around the world for sale.

武汉制造业的智能化改造进入黄金期，一批武汉本土智能制造供应商快速崛起。2020年7月，东风高端新能源汽车品牌“岚图”首款概念车在汉全球首发。 同年9月，由联想武汉产业基地制造的“MOTO刀锋”5G折叠屏手机下线，这款手机在联想武汉5G智能工厂自主生产、组装、测试、交付，运往全球160个市场销售。

6. Medical staff from Wuhan aid African countries

武汉医护频频亮相国际援助

After working on the frontline during the epidemic in Wuhan, the medical staff from Wuhan went to help control the spread of the pandemic in other countries.

抗击疫情时，他们一直奋战在最前线。武汉抗疫结束后，他们中有人又远赴他国协助抗疫。

At 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2020, the Chinese medical team, sent to help control the spread of the epidemic in Africa, returned safely to Wuhan. The team, organized by the National Health Commission and selected by the Health Commission of Hubei Province, departed for Lesotho and Angola on Sept. 27.

During the epidemic, a photo of Dr. Liu Kai watching the sunset with his patient in his 80s touched many people.

In this year's cherry blossom season, Wuhan University (WHU) held free exclusive visits on March 13 and 14, inviting medical staff to come and enjoy the cherry blossoms as promised. Seeing the lively scenes on streets, appreciating cherry blossoms around the city, and visiting the Yellow Crane Tower and Zhiyin cruise, the doctors and nurses said, "Wuhan is a heroic city and its people are heroic. Not only is COVID-19 under control, but they also have achieved economic growth."

Chinese spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying, tweeted about Wuhan's cherry blossoms on March 21 and her tweet attracted many netizens' attention at home and abroad. In Hua's Twitter account, she posted four beautiful pictures with the caption "Cherry blossoms all around #Wuhan." The pictures taken by Changjiang Daily's photography team include cherry blossoms in Wuhan University and East Lake Cherry Blossom Garden.

Japanese teacher Kanda Hidenori snatched the Spring Festival vouchers with his mobile phone; Italian professor Sara Platto had reunion dinner with a deliveryman and a local construction worker who participated in the construction of the Huoshenshan Hospital in 2020; Jackie from the U.K. made videos about Wuhan’s delicious cuisine and shared them on his account on Toutiao; Belgian teacher Jerry Van Oudenhove dressed in a red Tang suit and wrote Spring Festival couplets; and student Sadi Makangila Patrick from the Democratic Republic of Congo participated in the community inspection.

10. Overseas fans favor hot-and-dry noodles

On Jan. 27, the list of the top 10 local breakfast foods in Wuchang District was released after ten days of online campaigning and offline tasting activity.

经过为期十天的线上投票和线下品鉴团试吃打卡，1月27日，由武昌区文旅局推出的“2021武汉非遗过早节·武昌古城十佳最汉味小吃”名单出炉，10家汉味小吃入榜。

The top 10 local breakfast choices included dumplings, shaomai (steamed meat dumpling), dousi (a variety of bean noodles), hot-and-dry noodles, doupi (pan-fried delicacy of glutinous rice and minced meat), and tangbao (soup filled variety of China's classic steamed buns). Among all those snacks, hot-and-dry noodles was the most popular for overseas fans. Many of them expressed their favor for this local specialty via our Facebook account “Discover Wuhan.”

An array of important activities, performances, exhibitions and press conferences chose Wuhan as their first national stop over the past year.

In January 2020, a new year celebration joined by video streamers from Huya and League of Legends took place in Wuhan. In October 2020, the top luxury brand Louis Vuitton's international touring exhibition kicked off in Wuhan. In November 2020, the final of the hit TV music talent show "Sing China 2020” was held in the city. In April 4, the immersive drama "A Dream Like a Dream" will come to Wuhan, the first stop of its national tour.

12. Wuhan's traditional culture charm blooms

In September 2020, the 8th "Wuhan Opera Wharf" Chinese Opera Art festival kicked off in Wuhan, bringing in online and offline performances from 10 top Chinese Opera troupes and famous artists from the country. In November 2020, the World Chinese Costume festival raised the curtain at the Yellow Crane Tower Park, showcasing the beauty of traditional clothes and wonder of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. In March 2021, excellent Han Opera performances from five provinces were put on the stage in the city, displaying the charm of this traditional art form.

2020年9月，第八届武汉“戏码头”中华戏曲艺术节在武汉拉开大幕，10家顶级院团、众多名角以线上线下的方式共同打造戏曲盛宴；2020年11月，“世界华服大会”在黄鹤楼举行，向世人展现传统服装礼仪之美；2021年3月，五省优秀汉剧作品齐聚武汉集中展演，彰显武汉传统戏曲文化底蕴。

13. New discovery of Yangtze River civilization

长江文明在汉找到新的印记

In March 2021, the Guoyuanzui site in Wuhan was recognized as one of the top six new archaeological discoveries of 2020, as announced by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The ruins are identified as the largest Shang dynasty ronze castingremains ever found in the middle region of the Yangtze River basin, offering clues for the development of the Yangtze Rivercivilization along the middle region.

2021年3月，武汉市郭元咀遗址入选“2020年中国考古新发现”。该遗址是长江中游流域发现的最大商代铸铜遗址，对揭示长江中游文明进程具有重要的学术价值。

14. Seven new bird species in Wuhan in 2020

2020年武汉新发现7种鸟类

In the year 2020, seven species of birds inhabited Wuhan for the first time, among them are the black terns which are China's second-class protected birds.  As the ecological environment continues to improve for years, a large and diverse population of birds now call Wuhan their home.  As of Jan. 19, 2021, there were 423 avian species on record in the city.

随着近年来武汉生态的建设，武汉的鸟类朋友圈日益扩大，去年武汉新发现7种鸟类，其中，黑浮鸥是国家二级保护鸟类。截至今年1月19日，从武汉市观鸟协会获悉，鸟类记录种数已达423种。
